It looks superb and fills the shield well imho! I've painted many a LOTR model, especially Gondor plastic, and like you hate the scale creep. I did discuss this once with a GW troll and was told that they had done it on purpose to make the heroes stand out large than life!?! But that doesn;t explain the difference between a plastic Gondorian, a veteran or Fountain Guard (which is almost twice the size).
