Reloaded!
While I have searched for, and made-do with, other varnishes over the last few months, my heart was always yearning for Testors Dullcote.
Despite using it on over 100 figures, Testors has never fogged on me. It has never become too glossy. I seem to get the same even finish every time.
But it's more than that, there is something about it that actually seems to enhance my paint jobs. It seems to just slightly increase the contrast between layers...
Maybe it is all in my head, but I was extremely disappointed when my last can ran out, and I discovered there wasn't any to be obtained in the UK.
Thankfully, the ship has docked! And it seems to be available from numerous dealers. Not wanting to be caught off guard again, I went ahead and ordered a year's supply (at least). I got mine from NG Trains. Now I just need to find a cool try place to store them.
It is a happy day!
How long do you think this will last? 2 years?
ReplyDeleteWhile unpacking my Christmas supplies I found a can of dullcote I had been missing for two years! It has been serving me well the last week. Glad to see you found some, too!
ReplyDeleteTestor's is the best bar none!
ReplyDeleteNot crazy, I feel the same and some time ago Amazon US had a deal on a box of 12 cans and I jumped all over it.
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree with you about Testors Dullcote! I have tried various other brands, including fantasy brands in big cans, hardware store brands, and other hobby brands. Only Dullcote gets it right! I have even had to spray Dullcote over another lacquer that was too "satin." I have gotten "snow" from other brands. Rustoleum has bought Testors, but I am hoping that will make no difference. When I walk in, the local craft store may have 1 can or none, so I have taken to ordering sets of 4 online.
ReplyDeleteMan, that's one dull purchase!
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely cant go past Testors Dullcote - thought its a bit hard to find in Oz
ReplyDeleteI've had a can or two produce a slightly satin sheen, but I still prefer Dullcote over anything else.
